Camping Trip Report

Last Thursday Brent (bdubs), JP (keonip), and I went on a 4-day camping adventure on the Mogollon Rim near Payson, AZ.
Highlights:
- We found a perfect location right near the lake and away from the other campers.
- Watching JP and Brent reel in some nice rainbow trout, unfortunately I didn't catch one single fish.
- Cooking over the campfire.
- One evening we got to see a bunch of elk walking around in the forest.
- It was freezing cold at night/early morning. There was icy snow on the ground in some shady parts of the forest. We used the ice to preserve the fish.
- Almost pulling down a crackly, old 30' pine tree with a rock tied to a rope.
- Smores.
Overall it was a fun trip and a great experience. It was refreshing to be out in the nature with no one else around.

for the REcord BG7754, we only went to a "campground" so that we had a place to leave the car without it getting towed, we actually kept driving on a long dirt road until we found a secluded spot what WASNT an actual campsite (we drove 12 miles into the middle of the forest and then went past the "NO camping past this point sign (rebels i know) so that we would be even farther away from anyone else).
it def wasnt like we paid $$$/night to stay at some offical campground or an official campsite backpacking in teton mountains does sound sick though... |

Sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't been camping in a long time. One of my favorite places to go in Arizona is Aravaipa canyon. Its not too far from Tucson and is an absolutely beautiful place to go backpacking. They are very strict rules about how many people are allowed in the canyon at once and to backpack through it you have to get a permit (you want to get them in advance) and even then can only be in the canyon for 3 days. I highly recommend it tho.

We technically "needed permits" but we knew we'd be far enough out there that we prob wouldnt run into any park rangers or anything (which we never did).
thanks again for the suggestion on the location funk10 |
